Values: Who are you?

I am [fill me in].

Who are you? What do you spend your time on? What garnishes your attention?

These are who you are.

Your highest values determine your attention, retention, and intention: what you notice, what you remember, and what you intend or act upon.

Demartini, John F. . The Values Factor (p. 19). Penguin Publishing Group. Kindle Edition.

I am a Christian. I am a husband. I am a father. I am a veteran. I am a Cybersecurity Professional.
My values include growth, learning, and challenge.

Who I am and my values align well. This is evident in the way I spend my time and energy. I grow and learn as a Christian, husband, and father. I am challenged to improve and exhibit the traits I want my kids to absorb daily.

My career aligns well with what I prefer. I find meaningful opportunities at work to grow and learn. And the world of Cybersecurity is a constant challenge to balance what we call the triad (confidentiality, integrity, and availability).

In many of my career moves, my wife has reminded me to be cautious and understand the balance of work. Her description of me is if I’m not challenged, I’ll get bored, and when I get bored… I wander off. Meaning that I will look for that challenge that invigorates me.

Perhaps as you read The Values Factor, you’ve realized that your values and what you want them to be are different. Or maybe you see they don’t align with your goals.

In the coming weeks, I’ll branch into other topics and start to tie in changing mentality to reach goals and modify values.

As we journey together, I’ll list some habits I’ve adopted. We’ll leverage the reality that what you see in your mind, you can see in time. I’ll introduce you to new books that we can journey through together.

Comment below on Facebook or reply to the newsletters. Together we will see your dreams become a reality. I’d love to read your thoughts and comments and have a dialogue to grow and learn with you.

Blessings to you, my friend,

Justin
